Quantum Of Solace Gets A Theme SongJuly 29, 2008 at 11:29 pm | Posted in Bond, Movies, Music | Leave a comment
Pick two random artists: If they happen to be Alicia Keys and Jack White then congradulations, you’ve just picked the two artists in charge of the theme for the upcoming James Bond film Quantum Of Solace. The unusual combination of Jack White and Alicia Keys (possible band name: The White Keys) could work in the way it shouldn’t but does anyway- much like Santogold, Pharell and Julian Casablancas.
The song, “Another Way To Die” will be the first duet in Bond theme history. White wrote, produced and will drum the song seeing as the other half of The White Stripes (usually in charge of drumming) is, as most critics agree, deaf. I was hoping the song would have the same title as the movie only to find what the hell they could rhyme with the word Solace: Palace, Shoelace, Cactus, Bulbous, Jealous, Jose Gonzales… The list goes on and on.
To be honest, I’m pretty annoyed that the Bond producers didn’t pick Chris Cornell again. He had the best Bond theme for decades with “You Know My Name“. Especially when you consider that the Bond theme directly before that was Madonna’s collection of noises of 4 minutes and 27 seconds called “Die Another Die“. A more apt title from the listener’s perspective would be “Kill Me Now”. Shirley Bassey is to date the only artist to have recorded more than once, singing the theme to Goldfinger, Diamonds Are Forever and Moonraker.
Other artists names that have been bandied about were Duffy (ugh), Leona Lewis and Amy Winehouse went as far as recording a demo with Mark Ronson but dropped out due to “illness”.
