Michel Gondry Tutorial: How To Swede

boys_sweded.jpg

In the most potentially funny film of 2008 ‘Be Kind, Rewind‘, Jack Black and Mos Def must re-record classic movies to replace broken VHS tapes. The process is described in the film as sweding, or “re-making something from scratch using whatever you can get your hands on.”

At the recent Apple Store tour, Gondry was showing off a Be Kind Rewind movie trailer which he sweded all by himself, which means he played all the characters, constructed all the props and locations. If you haven’t yet, please watch the original Be Kind Rewind movie trailer. Then check out Gondry’s fantastic sweded version below.

Now if only the film gets released one of these days…

It’s giong to be a very quirky film much like Gondry himself. The other films of his that I’ve seen are all brilliant:

-Eternal Sunshine Of A Spotless Mind (one of my all time favourite films)

-Dave Chappelle’s Block Party (editing/ music are fantastic)

-Human Nature (hard to come by in shops)
